Values
Forest plantations are worth more than timber when they are associated with sustainable landscape development, carbon sinks, and social factors such as working conditions and livelihoods. Our plantation forests deliver significant benefits, not only for carbon storage but also for water and biodiversity within the managed environments of their associated ecosystems. They also play a vital role in sustaining the remote rural communities in which we operate.
We manage our estates to FSC® and IFC® standards, the global benchmarks for responsible forestry.
Strategy
In Mozambique, we acquire, develop, and manage plantation forests and conservation areas that will deliver unique environmental and social co-benefits. We support the role of plantation forests within our overarching landscape initiative as a Nature-based solution, providing sustainable wood fiber for the growing circular economy and contributing to economic development.
While timber remains the primary focus of our business model, carbon income is essential to our investment case and rationale for investing in Mozambican forestry. Our business encompasses CO₂ sequestration in commercial tree plantations and in the protection and restoration of natural forests and ecosystems.
Scale
Working with our partner in Mozambique, Investimento Florestal de Moçambique Lda, we are implementing an integrated landscape initiative. This effort aims to combine our landholdings in Sofala Province and support our plan to create a large-scale, over 30,000-hectare value proposition. Beyond cost savings and improved management, this aggregation gives investors in carbon offsets confidence that our project will generate significant climate, community, and biodiversity benefits.
